Dr Richard Hutchins, Director, Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick
Richard has recently joined the University of Warwick to head up its advanced manufacturing group. Previously, he was Corporate Director for Economic Development at Advantage West Midlands. In this role Richard was responsible for skills, enterprise and innovation policy and has strategic responsibility for the Regional Skills Partnership, Enterprise Board and Innovation and Technology Council. Before joining Advantage West Midlands in September 2003, Richard spent 6 years at food industry think tank IGD. Prior to this he was an academic at Imperial College (Wye) and Newcastle University, where he researched, lectured and consulted in food marketing. He started his career in 1988 at Sun Valley Foods in Hereford as a Management Trainee. Richard has a PhD in Food Marketing and a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural and Food Marketing. Richard has studied, lived and worked in many places in the UK and abroad and now lives in Stourbridge with his wife, Ruth, and young son, Ben. His interests include food and wine, running to keep fit and, when time permits, watching rugby and cricket.
