Abstract:
A top R&D intensive UK company tasked IXC with finding an engine exceeding the specifications of current technology from a Fortune 500 company. Having located the technology, IXC introduced the parties, development has progressed and product launch is imminent.
Focus; Intention analysis and management
A world leading luxury car manufacturer, amongst the top 30 companies for R&D investment in the UK, had the goal of developing an innovative series hybrid drive vehicle. The client had already identified a number of partners to work with including a high ranking Fortune 500 company to co-develop the engine. In the drive to lightweight the vehicle the client had examined their extensive supply chain but were unable to find an engine with equal performance at a lighter weight. IXC was tasked with finding an engine from a UK company, outside the client's supply chain that had high peak output and torque but weighing less than the competing product from the Fortune 500 company.
Find; Scanning and technology intelligence
IXC has access to technology that is not yet in the public domain and clients would not be aware of through its internal database. In parallel with interrogation of the anonymous client database IXC utilised its extended networks to search for organisations with applicable technology in market sectors from domestic to aerospace.
Filter; Scoping and filtering, technology assessment
The client had produced a specific technical brief that products were expected to meet, along with volume requirements and deadlines on both prototyping and manufacture. IXC assessed the technology against the benchmarks provided and investigated the performance and reliability of each company before presenting an ideal candidate it to the client.
Facilitate; Matchmaking and brokering
Following approval from the client IXC facilitated a meeting under NDA of the two parties, the client found the technical ability and track record of the potential partner to be a match for their requirements. With a third partner the consortium has since produced prototypes of the engine for incorporation into the vehicle, secured further funding and the launch of a much anticipated product is imminent.
