How a UK market leader is using IXC® UK's global reach to diversify into new markets

A UK-based, gas-sensing, technology company sought the help of IXC when it was challenged by its new, US-based parent company to diversify into water analysis technology.

When the company approached IXC it was market leader in its niche field of gas sensing devices but was maintaining this position by brand alone - its once revolutionary technology was nearly ten years old and it needed to identify and secure new revenue streams.

So, when charged with developing "lab-on-a-chip" technology to allow in-situ, multi-compound water monitoring, the company knew its existing sensing technology know-how, albeit solely regarding gases, gave it a head start in the race to market with such equipment.

What it lacked, however, was any knowledge of the many, water-testing technologies it would need to amalgamate in that one device, as well as the experience to miniaturize those technologies once collated.  This knowledge was totally outside the company's sphere of knowledge.

This is where IXC UK came in.

Within a few short weeks, the IXC Intermediary had already identified a variety of potentially relevant technologies, ranging from those which monitor metallic compounds to hydrocarbons and bacteria.  Within just four months, not only had the potential partners been found, but IXC had completed the necessary due diligence and set up initial meetings.

Crucial was the speed at which IXC worked which ultimately shortened the product development period.  As an SME with only two, technical engineers on staff the same research would have taken many years, not months, rendering such a project impossible.

Only IXC can...

  • Find the multiple technologies you need, when you need them
  • Drive new product development, offering faster routes to market
  • Dissolve the barriers to collaboration, be they cultural, technological or geographical

IXC has proven invaluable, not only in identifying the host of new technologies we need, but in its skill at moving these connections forward, helping us to bridge the technological, cultural and geographical divides to bring about a variety of tangible co-development possibilities
